Full-Grain Leather Padfolios

Full-grain hide is the only leather that improves with a decade of opening and shutting, because the surface has never been sanded and corrected. It also has to be prepared for the fold: hide at full thickness across a spine bulks, resists and eventually creases badly.

So the spine is skived — thinned in a band before it is folded — and the edges are burnished rather than left raw. That is the difference between a leather folio that gets softer and one that develops a hard grey line down the middle.

Blind debossing is the decoration we recommend on good hide: it presses the mark into the grain and it will still be there when the folio is old. Foil is brighter for a mark that must read across a room, and we will say which suits your artwork.
